Wojciech Przybylski: the path to the EU is a factor to reform the country
02.09.2022What was the meaning of Poland’s promotion from a candidate to full membership of the country in the EU? Newssky asked Wojciech Przybylski, a political analyst who heads the political forecasting of the Visegrad Group regarding European affairs to comment.
For Poland, this time was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Poland saw it as an escape from centuries of dependencies from Moscow and soft security insurance, an add-on to NATO, which we joined in 1999. Eventually, it was also seen as a mobilizing factor for reforming the country, upgrading our political and business culture from servitude to whomever was in power to a culture of service for the people. Poland believed that we are becoming a normal country by moving closer to the EU. Eventually, many were a bit disappointed, because the EU never lives up to the dream but thanks to that opportunity, we can say that Poland has really made a big leap forward an indeed travelled from the East to the West.
