Lately, we have seen sabotage among the participating countries as Russia’s influence, which manipulates nationalist parties, is growing in some of them. Is the EU capable of solving this problem? A Newssky correspondent asked Wojciech Przybylski, editor-in-chief of Visegrád Insight and head of the ResPublica foundation in Warsaw to comment.

Unfortunately, some sabotage among the countries covered by the European Union continues due to the growing influence of Russia, which manipulates the nationalist parties. The last elections in Slovakia illustrated this. In general, the European Union as a bloc does not have the authority to limit the national sovereignty of its member-states. Power rests exclusively with national constituencies within societies. However, joint decision-making mitigates some risks of radicalism, as do policies such as a common European currency. Therefore, extremism does not settle well in the most integrated countries of the EU, and the best vaccine against nationalism is the greatest possible integration in the EU.
