What is your assessment of Ukraine’s progress towards meeting the conditions for opening negotiations with the EU? Speaker Stefanchuk said that by the New Year, the Verkhovna Rada will pass all the laws necessary for the acquisition of membership – does he understand what it is about? Yevhen Mahda, director of the Institute of World Politics, answered these questions for the Newssky.

I’ve got the impression that Ukraine’s acquisition of the status of a candidate for accession to the European Union caused dizziness from the successes in the nuke of the Ukrainian government. And, after all, they simply began to ignore a number of countries that stand in front of Ukraine in this queue, and the fact that the necessary reforms need to be carried out, and not just declarations that we have already fulfilled “such and such” the scope of the Association Agreement.

It is great that the Association Agreement is being implemented, but not as much as we would like it to be — that’s the first thing. Secondly, as long as we have such decisions as on MP Trukhin or on the appointment of Ms. Sovgyrya to the Constitutional Court, in violation of the law, or on the change of the Prosecutor General and the head of the SBU — without their report, we can realistically talk about some kind of European integration, I think does not have to Because democracy is a procedure.

In our country today, the members of the presidential team prefer loud promises, hoping that the war will erase everything, and the European Union will not go anywhere. They do not understand that European integration is a bit more complicated than simply promising something loudly, and it is also necessary to take certain substantive steps.

That’s why Mr. Stefanchuk’s cheerful reports, to be honest, remind only of the fact that he was once an active player of the “club of the cheerful and clever”, and not of the fact that he is now the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.
