In view of Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic course, we are communicating with our partners in the Visegrád Group regarding their experience in this direction. A Newssky correspondent asked Wojciech Przybylski, the editor-in-chief of Visegrád Insight and the head of the ResPublica foundation in Warsaw, to comment on what Poland acquired as a nation by becoming a member of the EU.

Poland strengthened the mechanisms of democratic development and the influence of the interests of large corporations upon the economy.

Poland’s accession to the EU made it possible to further join NATO, which strengthened the country’s security; improved bureaucratic standards — the work of state administration for its citizens, as well as transparency; helps to overcome corruption; opened a new market — a single market for goods, significantly increased investment from private and public sources to develop a competitive economy and infrastructure and post-war/communist recovery; helped develop new EU political initiatives to influence the rest of the members, provided strong antitrust mechanisms to protect against the interests of large corporations, and helps to protect the Constitution in the sense of the rule of law.
