Recently, we often hear the expression «collective West». What kind of beast is this? Does it exist? Hryhoriy Mesezhnikov, president of the Institute of Public Affairs in Slovakia, shared his opinion with the Newssky correspondent, and comments on the latest events in Slovakia.
What is your view on the existence of a collective West?
There is a constant definition of the democratic states of the West: the collective West. Of course, there is no collective West in the sense of a certain center of management of Western states’ internal or foreign policy. There is a community of democratic states united in various integration structures, in particular NATO, and the European Union, where there is a tendency to cooperate to get rid of the threats posed to these countries by dictatorial, fundamentalist, terrorist regimes, particularly Russia.
What would you say about the unity of the Western states in the Russian-Ukrainian war?
We are observing an interesting phenomenon. Although a single center that would rule the entire West certainly does not exist, the policy pursued by the Russian Federation, and particularly Putin, the Putin regime, primarily about Ukraine, is waging an aggressive war because it wants to take over Ukraine, and it is unlikely that it would stop if he succeeded, Western countries are coordinating their efforts.
In Moscow, the phrase «collective West» is often heard. If the «collective West» began its existence, it was not in the form of a single control center, but in the form of cooperation and coordination of actions. Yes, today there is a force that, if the ruling elites in all these states understand that the only possibility for the survival of democracy, the peoples of democratic states, is to cooperate and oppose all dictatorial authoritarian regimes that create an international of rogue states like Russia, North Korea, Iran, Syria, and China, which is joining, must understand in Moscow that the «collective West» will not allow Moscow to impose its world order by uniting democratic states with peoples who are fighting for freedom, in particular with Ukraine.
