Hindi Philology Urges for Help

Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is justly admitted to be the best university of Ukraine. It accepts the most intelligent youth from the whole country and turns them into true specialists in any field they choose. Its Institute of Philology is worthy of extra attention because not only linguists but experts of literature, culture and law of a row of countries are taught there. Education programs given in IP include also Hindi philology, translation and literature since 2007.

Indian culture is unknown and stranger to most Ukrainians, this is why this direction is not the most popular among entrants. But those who dare to dedicate four years to studying such an unusual subject finally completely fall in love with India and often devote all their life to it. Our Hindi philology students enjoy language internship in universities of Delhi and Agra; some of them find the purpose of their life in teaching othersthe subjects related to India or in working within the Embassy of India in Ukraine.

And while studying everyone finds something especially interesting for themselves. We learn to translate Hindi poetries and cook Indian dishes,dance and decorate ourselves. Every new subject opens this wise ancient world wider for us. The only sad thing is that our students have to learn everything from Ukrainian teachers because there is no Hindi native speaker within the IP currently. Although, we will gladly welcome a volunteer who’d wished to help us in acquisition of the language. And it would be just fantastic if they know even more than one Indian language, because «so many languages you know, so many times you are a man».

The two nations of ours are so similar from the point of view of love to the Motherland, and how many the same details are there in our languages and customs which come through the ages! Anyone from Hindi philology is proud of studying such a subject. Слава Україні!जय हिंद!
