"I am grateful for his personal attention to the tragedy of millions of Ukrainians. He also emphasized tens of thousands of deported children. We must make every effort to return them home. In addition, he asked to condemn Russian crimes in Ukraine. Because there can be no equality between the victim and the aggressor," Zelenskyi said at the end of the meeting.
The president also informed the Pope about the peace formula as, in his words, "the only effective algorithm for achieving a just peace, and offered to join its implementation."
On May 13, in Rome, Zelensky also had a meeting with Italian President Sergio Mattarella, a supporter of Kyiv in the international arena. The Ukrainian president also held talks with the country's prime minister George Maloney.
Zelenskyi visited Italy and the Vatican State for the first time since the start of Russia's large-scale war.
