Protection of the Belgrade Hare

Exclusive. Protests in Serbia in 2025 have become one of the most significant public movements in the country in recent decades. They began in November 2024 after the tragedy in Novi Sad, where on November 1 the concrete canopy at the railway station collapsed, killing 15 people. This event caused a wide resonance, as many associated it with corruption and negligence of the authorities during the reconstruction of the facility.

Since then, the protests, initially organized by students, have grown into a mass movement that has encompassed various layers of the population — from teachers and farmers to bikers and employees of social institutions. The main demands of the demonstrators include resignation of President Aleksandr Vucic, punishment of those guilty of tragedies, fight against systemic corruption and ensuring transparency in the country's governance.

The culmination was the rally on March 15, 2025 in Belgrade, which, according to various estimates, gathered from 100 to more than 500 people, making it one of the largest protests in the history of modern Serbia. Participants gathered at the parliament building, and columns of demonstrators, including farmers on tractors, arrived from different parts of the country. Despite the peaceful nature of most actions, separate clashes with the police were recorded, as well as reports of the possible use of sound weapons, which the authorities deny.

The protests have already led to noticeable consequences: in January 2025, Prime Minister Mylos Vucevych resigned, but the demonstrators continue to insist on systemic changes. Vuchich, in turn, compares what is happening with the demands of the "color revolution" and insists that power will change only through elections. However, the movement does not lose its strength, and many experts predict further aggravation of the political crisis in the country.
