At the invitation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, a European summit on Ukraine will be held in London on Sunday, March 2. Starmer has invited more than a dozen heads of state and government from European countries, the British Prime Minister's press service reported on February 28. The summit aims to demonstrate Europe's "united and unwavering support" for a peaceful settlement "that will ensure the future sovereignty and security of Ukraine," the report said.

It is noted that representatives of Germany, France, Italy, Poland and Turkey have been invited to the summit, among others. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU Council President António Costa are also expected to attend.

According to the British Prime Minister's office, Starmer plans to hold a telephone conference with representatives of the three Baltic countries on Sunday morning before the summit, as well as host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Maloni for bilateral talks.

Starmer calls summit after meeting with Trump

As a reminder, on February 27, Starmer visited US President Donald Trump at the White House. Trump's rapprochement with Russian leader Vladimir Putin has caused great concern in Ukraine and Europe. Ukrainians and Europeans fear that Trump and Putin could decide Ukraine's future without their participation and conclude a ceasefire agreement that would force Kyiv to make significant territorial concessions.

During his meeting with Starmer, Trump declined to make a specific statement on whether the US would provide military support for a possible deployment of a European peacekeeping force in Ukraine. The deployment of such troops has been proposed by the UK and France.

The EU is also planning a special summit on Ukraine on March 6. Last week, two European summits on Ukraine were held in Paris at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron.
