European Union leaders will hold a special summit on the war in Ukraine on March 6. This was announced on Sunday, February 23, by European Council President António Costa.

"We are experiencing a defining moment for Ukraine and European security. During my consultations with European leaders, I heard a shared desire to respond to these challenges at the EU level: to strengthen European defense and make a decisive contribution to ensuring peace on our continent and the long-term security of Ukraine," the politician wrote on his X social media account, announcing the date of the summit.

Costa said he would continue to work with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and all EU member states to "be ready for the decisions on March 6."
EU leaders to visit Kyiv on third anniversary of war

Antonio Costa previously reported that on February 24, the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he and von der Leyen will visit Kyiv. The President of the European Commission and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will co-chair a joint meeting of the European Commission and the Ukrainian government.

According to Zelensky, a total of 37 leaders of states will participate in the summit in Kyiv on Monday, 13 of whom will be present in person, in particular, leaders of northern European countries.

According to Politico, European Commission officials will present a military aid package to Ukraine worth at least six billion euros in Kyiv, which would be one of the largest since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion.
