The EU will focus on supplies to Ukraine in the coming weeks, — Ursula von der Leyen

The European Union (EU) should speed up the delivery of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine. This issue will be on the agenda in the coming weeks. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine referring to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during a speech at the annual conference of EU diplomats.

As von der Leyen noted, the war in Ukraine remains the central and most consequential crisis for Europe’s future. The full-scale war will soon be four years old, and dictator Vladimir Putin continues to make efforts to force Ukraine to capitulate.

"And we know what can happen after, because it happened before. He will move towards the next goals, as he did after the events of 2008 and 2014. It is not only about the fate of Ukraine, the fate of Europe is at stake. So our first priority is to give strength to the Ukrainian resistance," she emphasized.

According to the President of the European Commission, since the beginning of the war, the EU and its member states have provided Ukraine with support worth 134 billion euros.

"Thanks to the Ukraine Fund (in the EU's multiannual budget for 2024-2027 - ed.) and the G7 loan, we have closed Ukraine's budget deficit for the entire year 2025. In parallel, we must accelerate the immediate delivery of weapons and ammunition. This will be at the center of our work in the coming weeks," she noted.

EU assistance to Ukraine

The European Union has been providing comprehensive support to Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation, including military, financial, humanitarian and political assistance. Kyiv has received significant military support packages, covering ammunition, armored vehicles, air defense systems and military training. The EU has also imposed numerous sanctions against the Russian Federation, aimed at weakening its economic and military potential.

Recently, EU member state Croatia announced its preparations to allocate the 12th package of military-technical assistance to Ukraine.
