The European Union will prepare a million 155 mm shells and more than 1000 missiles for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was said on May 11 by the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, at the defense and security summit.

"We will prepare a million 155 mm shells and more than 1000 rockets for Ukraine," he said.

In addition, 17 Ukrainian soldiers were trained in EU countries, and up to 30 people are planned to be trained by the end of the year.

"Now defense has the highest priority, because we are facing a war. Therefore, it is important that the defense side of our foreign policy acquires more and more importance," he added.

Western aid to Ukraine: how much money did the European Union spend?

The countries and organizations of the European Union provided Kyiv with a total of 16 billion euros in aid, the first tranche was 500 million euros, Borrell calculated.

"Together, EU countries and organizations have provided €16 billion in aid, and this is not the end," he said.

The head of European diplomacy added that without Western military aid, Ukraine will cease to exist as an independent state.

"Russia will win the war, occupy Kyiv and turn Ukraine into a second Belarus. Ukraine will cease to exist, and Russian troops will approach the Polish border, our security will decrease. This is what will happen," said the diplomat.

European countries plan to spend almost 70 billion euros on strengthening defense in the next three years, the head of EU diplomacy said.

We will remind that on May 9, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about providing Ukraine with one million artillery shells. Ammunition should arrive at the front as soon as possible, the head of European diplomacy emphasized.

Focus wrote on May 3 about the approval of the procurement mechanism for shells for the Armed Forces. European ambassadors agreed to allocate 1 billion euros for joint procurement of ammunition.
