On February 18, 2025, in Brussels, ambassadors of the European Union countries will discuss providing Ukraine with additional military assistance worth 5 billion euros.
According to the draft document, the EU plans to supply one and a half million large-caliber artillery ammunition, air defense systems, long-range precision missiles, drones, and support for the restoration of the Ukrainian Armed Forces brigades.
This step is part of a plan to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities, including training and equipping military personnel.
One of the important aspects of the discussion will also be support for Ukraine's defense-industrial complex, in particular through initiatives that will promote cooperation between the defense industry of the EU and Ukraine.
The European Union emphasizes that since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, the EU has already provided Ukraine with assistance totaling €134,5 billion, of which €48,5 billion is military assistance.
The draft document states that the EU will continue to provide military support to Ukraine as intensively as necessary.
Recall that European officials are preparing a new major package of measures to increase defense spending and support Kyiv. However, the spending plans will not be announced before the German elections on February 23, to avoid controversy before the vote.
