Leopard tank manufacturer created the first joint venture with Ukroboronprom

At the beginning, the German-Ukrainian enterprise will deal with maintenance and repair of armored vehicles, he writes tsn.ua.

Rheinmetall concern, one of the largest manufacturers of military equipment and weapons in Germany, established a joint venture with Ukrainian "Ukroboronprom".

The general director of the German company, Armin Papperger, in an interview with Handelsblatt, said that the relevant contracts have already been signed.

The German side owns 51% of the shares of the joint venture and will manage it.

At the first stages, the cooperation will consist in the maintenance and repair of armored vehicles, but in parallel, the enterprise will be prepared for the production of tanks.

Papperger emphasized that Ukraine will benefit from the comprehensive technology transfer and short-term supply of military equipment from Germany.

In addition, in the coming days, the German concern intends to sign contracts for the creation of two more joint ventures — for ammunition and air defense.

The Rheinmetall concern is known as a manufacturer of Leopard tanks (together with the Krauss-Maffei Wegmann engineering company), as well as Marder infantry fighting vehicles, Wiesel amphibious assault vehicles, Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers and GTK Boxer armored personnel carriers.
