Britain and the European Union are discussing accelerating arms deliveries to Ukraine ahead of a possible full ceasefire, British Foreign Secretary David Lemmy told Bloomberg shortly before Russian dictator Vladimir Putin agreed to a limited ceasefire, the BBC reported. liga.net.

Lemmy said he discussed the possibility of providing more military support to Ukraine before a broad ceasefire with European diplomacy chief Kaia Kallas at a meeting in London on March 18.

According to him, this idea was also expressed at the G7 foreign ministers' meeting in Canada last week.

"Of course, we intend to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position militarily and economically. We want peace to prevail, but we achieve peace through force," Lemmy noted.

Lemmy called on Russia to agree to an unconditional ceasefire and warned that Putin must not be allowed to take advantage of the truce by rearming his army before a lasting peace settlement is reached.

The UK and other European allies of Ukraine are concerned that Russia will reject the peace deal.

“We want a cessation of all hostilities, not a period during which Putin can rearm and leave again. No ‘ifs’, no ‘buts’, no conditions: Putin could simply declare an unconditional ceasefire based on the agreements between the United States, with our help, and the Ukrainians last week, and we could begin the proper process of establishing peace in Ukraine,” Lemmy said.
