The Minister of EU Affairs and the Constitution in the Government of Austria, Karolina Edtstadler, confirmed that the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, will be arrested in the event of his visit to the country. She stated this in an interview with Tagesspiegel, European Pravda reports pravda.com.ua.

According to Edtstadler, the announcement and issuance of an international arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court means that if Putin "set foot on Austrian soil, he would have to be arrested."

"Austria will fulfill its obligations in accordance with international and criminal law," she added.

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria stated that they will fulfill their obligations as participants of the Rome Statute and arrest and hand over Putin to the International Criminal Court if he decides to come to the country.

On March 17, the Pre-Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and Maria Lvova-Belova, the Russian President's Commissioner for Children's Rights.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken believes that European states that are signatories to the Rome Statute must execute the warrant for Putin's arrest and hand it over to the International Criminal Court. At the same time, Hungary, which is a signatory of the treaty, said that they would not do this.
