The Lithuanian government extended temporary protection for refugees from Ukraine

So far, this protection has been in place until March 2025. The government extended the temporary protection until March 4, 2026.
According to the Migration Department, 30-40 new applications for a temporary residence permit in Lithuania are registered every day.
Currently, more than 44 people have a valid residence permit in Lithuania based on temporary protection.
Earlier, the Council of the European Union decided to extend temporary protection until March 4, 2026 for more than 4 million Ukrainian refugees.
The EU law on temporary protection sets minimum standards of protection. The actual level of aid may vary between EU member states.
In January 2024, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that more than 6,3 million Ukrainian citizens continue to live as refugees "in neighboring European countries and around the world."
