The AfterTax Ukrainian application for investors calculates the value of a portfolio after taxes

Ukrainian developer Yevhen Dubinin created the AfterTax application, which helps to calculate the real value of an investment portfolio. He calculates income taxes that must be paid to the budget, taking into account exchange differences, after which he gives the investor the value of his assets "clean", he writes ain.ua.

Investments in shares and the stock market are gaining more and more popularity in Ukraine. But the amounts that investors see in investment apps can become completely different when they try to withdraw profits — because of taxes.

AfterTax is designed specifically for investors to see the true value of their portfolio.

For example, in 2020, an investor bought shares for $1000, which equaled approximately UAH 26. As of today, let the market value of shares is $000, which is approximately equal to UAH 1200.

Tax obligations upon sale will be equal to: (44 UAH — 400 UAH) * 26000% = 19,5 UAH or $3588 at the NBU exchange rate.

The real cost of capital will be: $1200 — $97 = $1103.

Market data is taken from Yahoo Finance, all calculations are performed according to the FIFO method and are carried out at the rate of the NBU.

Also, if there were purchase/sale transactions in the current year, the application will immediately calculate how much tax has already accrued to be paid.

The app is available for iOS and Android. It is free, the developer does not plan to monetize it. The release in the App store took place on July 11, and in Google Play - on July 12 of the current year.

Yevhen told the editor of AIN.UA that he created AfterTax for his own needs, but decided to share it with others. "The investor community has already positively evaluated the idea and implementation," he noted.

"I have been investing and paying taxes since 2019. I always made calculations in Excel, so the idea arose to automate it and have up-to-date information about the state of my investments in the form of a mobile application. It took about 2 months to implement, because the technology of developing multi-platform mobile applications (Flutter) was new to me, and a lot of time was spent on basic training, design and release. The development was for Android and iOS with one codebase (the same code is compiled and works on different iOS and Android platforms)," Yevhen told the editor of AIN.UA.

This is not Dubinin's first project to work with financial instruments. In 2021, he launched the Telegram bot FinTrackerBot, which became quite popular. According to the developer, today the bot has more than 3000 active users. A total of 13 users have used FinTrackerBot.
