Ukrainians trained artificial intelligence to analyze speeches and expressions for the presence of genocidal rhetoric

The Ukrainian Institute and creative agency Bickerstaff.932 have developed a project to monitor genocidal rhetoric — Genocide Speech Monitor. With its help, it is possible to analyze the level of genocidal rhetoric in the public statements of the leaders of various countries, he writes dev.ua.

The project is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor in Ukraine and once again demonstrates the cyclical nature of history.

In 1932, Stalin declared: "If we do not begin to correct the situation in Ukraine, we may lose Ukraine." These were not just words, they were followed by concrete actions - an artificial famine on the territory of Ukraine, the deaths of more than 4 million Ukrainians, and 1 million - the loss of the unborn.

90 years later, on February 21, 2022, we hear from Putin — "modern Ukraine was entirely and completely created by Russia, more precisely, by Bolshevik, Communist Russia." In three days, Russia launched a full-scale attack on Ukraine.

Volodymyr Sheyko, General Director of the Ukrainian Institute, talks about the goals of the information project: "In honor of the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine, we tell the world the truth about this tragedy, its prerequisites and consequences. Genocide does not happen suddenly, it is a planned and consistent terror accompanied by the genocidal rhetoric of its ideologues. We created the Genocide Speech Monitor, a practical tool for foreign audiences that allows you to monitor such rhetoric both in the context of the Holodomor and current events."

Each tragedy has its own traceable signs. In the case of genocide, it is the words of dictators and government officials that may indicate their future intentions. "We can draw clear parallels between the Kremlin's rhetoric and actions in 1932-1933 and today. This is an unpunished evil that has returned to Ukraine again. With this project, we call on other countries to pay attention to the statements of their leaders and the leaders of neighboring countries." — says Maria Kochurenko, a strategist at Bickerstaff.932 — a Ukrainian creative agency engaged in the development and implementation of a project commissioned by the Ukrainian Institute.

In addition, the site allows you to analyze any statement of up to 12 words for the level of genocidal rhetoric — for example, a speech or public statement of the country's leader.

The tool is completely free and available for use in all countries of the world. In the future, it is planned to expand its functionality so that artificial intelligence can analyze public information from open sources in real time and detect genocidal rhetoric in the words of country leaders.
