Ukraine will receive the NASAMS system from Canada in early 2025

Canada plans to hand over a modern NASAMS medium-range air defense system to Ukraine. It will happen early next year. Canada's Minister of Defense Bill Blair stated this, according to reports RBC-Ukraine citing his CBC News interview.

According to him, Canada joined the order of the United States of America for the production of 10 NASAMS systems as early as 2023. The weapons manufacturer, Raytheon, has promised to deliver these systems soon.

"Our systems will be included in this tranche, and we will immediately send them to Ukraine," the minister said.

It is expected that NASAMS will arrive in Ukraine in early 2025. We will remind that in July 2022, the USA announced that it was buying two NASAMS for Ukraine, and two months later added six more to the order.

However, difficulties arose later. In particular, Canada paid the US government $406 million for the air defense system last March. A representative of the Ministry of Defense reported that the US government signed a contract with the weapons manufacturer Raytheon for its production.

But Kongsberg, another company involved in the creation of these systems, said it has no contract with either the US or Canada. A Pentagon official did not provide information, instead referring questions to Canadian officials.

NASAMS systems for Ukraine

NASAMS is a Norwegian mobile anti-aircraft missile system that can fire 72 missiles in 12 seconds. It is used to shoot down airplanes, helicopters and cruise missiles within a radius of up to 40 km.

It was previously reported that the Armed Forces received the NASAMS anti-aircraft missile complex in November 2022. It was part of the NASAMS that the States were ordering.

And already in January of last year, the Ministry of Defense of Canada announced that Ukraine will be able to receive the NASAMS air defense system purchased by the country in the shortest possible time, as soon as it is prepared.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, Ukraine received additional NASAMS air defense systems. They are already on combat duty and will be a good reinforcement of air defense on the eve of winter.
