Ukraine and Greece are negotiating security guarantees
12.08.2023 0 By Writer.NSDirect negotiations were held between Ukraine and Greece regarding the conclusion of bilateral agreements on security guarantees for our country. Kyiv is already conducting similar consultations, in particular, with the USA and Great Britain. About this reported the RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Greek publication Ekathimerini.

According to journalists, such consultations at the level of the ministries of foreign affairs took place recently.
"At a broader political level, both sides are discussing the creation of a framework that will bring bilateral relations between Greece and Ukraine in line with the spirit of the G7 leaders' declaration, and then the European Council will continue its long-term support for Kyiv on a practical level," the publication says.
It is also noted that if these discussions are completed, the issue of defining specific aspects of the agreement will be considered, while representatives of the United States also participate in these contacts.
It is expected that Athens will seek to play its role in the field of security guarantees for Ukraine, as Kyiv "principally respects the jurisdiction and decisions of all international courts."
Ukraine's security requirements mostly include air defense, artillery, armored vehicles and fighter aircraft. The need for stable supplies of ammunition (155-mm shells) is seen in Athens as an opportunity for the reconstruction of part of Greece's defense systems.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
Ukrainian officials expect that Western countries will provide security guarantees to our country. They are needed in order to avoid a repeated attack by Russia in the period after the end of the war and before Ukraine becomes a member of NATO.
We will remind that at the NATO summit in Vilnius, which took place in early July, the G7 countries signed a joint declaration. It provides for long-term support of Ukraine in the sphere of security and economy. Any country can join it.
Among those who joined the declaration are the Czech Republic, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Sweden.
At the same time, on August 3, Yermak said that Ukrainian diplomats had already started negotiations on security guarantees with the United States. In addition, on August 11, Ukraine started consultations on security guarantees with Britain.
