British Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke with United States President Donald Trump, the Downing Street press service reported on April 18, writes radiosvoboda.org.

The conversation covered a range of issues, including trade discussions. In particular, Starmer reaffirmed his commitment to "free and open trade" and stressed the importance of protecting national interests.

"The leaders also discussed the situation in Ukraine, Iran, and recent actions against the Houthis in Yemen," the report said.

According to the report, the politicians agreed to stay in touch.

Donald Trump has not yet commented on the conversation.

Representatives of Ukraine, the United States, and Europe met in Paris on April 17 to discuss ending the Russian-Ukrainian war. The next round of talks will take place in London next week, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said.

On April 8, Keir Starmer said that the United Kingdom would not want a trade war with the United States, but "will not be intimidated."
