The Treasury Department said in a statement that the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions have been imposed on Hennesea Shipping Co Ltd, the ultimate owner of 18 Liberian-flagged tankers acquired in late 2022.
One of the company's ships, the HSC Atlantica, was carrying crude oil of Russian origin, sold at a price above the $60 limit set by the GXNUMX countries. The company used the services of an American provider of maritime services, which made it possible to prosecute.
A price ceiling of $60 per barrel for Russian oil delivered by sea was imposed by Western countries in December 2022 to limit the Kremlin's income during the war in Ukraine. Due to the war and sanctions, most of the Russian oil is exported to India and China, they did not join the ceiling.
