According to the German chancellor, the arms deliveries to Ukraine planned so far by the majority of EU member states are "in any case too small."
"Therefore, I call on our allies in the European Union to intensify their efforts in favor of Ukraine," he added.
Scholz believes that by the next summit on February 1 at the latest, the European Union needs to have the most accurate idea of what contribution European partners will make to support Ukraine this year.
"Europe must demonstrate that it is on the side of Ukraine, on the side of freedom, international law and European values," he warned.
The Chancellor of Germany emphasized that his country is the largest donor of aid to Ukraine after the United States, and this year alone has pledged 8 billion euros to supply it with weapons and military equipment, not counting humanitarian and financial support.
As you know, against the backdrop of the blocking of additional aid to Ukraine in the US Congress and delays in the approval of the four-year plan to support Kyiv for 50 billion euros in the EU, calls for more active support for Kyiv this year are being heard more and more often.
Among other things, last week the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski, explained in detail why further military support for Ukraine is in European interests and why it is wrong to talk about "fatigue with Ukraine" in the West.
