US Secretary of State Marco Rubio
The Polish Foreign Minister had a telephone conversation with the US Secretary of State on Wednesday, April 23. Sikorski noted that Rubio denied in his conversation with him that Ukraine was being demanded to recognize Crimea as Russian.
"I can report, because it will serve the cause, that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has denied media reports that the United States demanded that Ukraine legally give up Crimea. This is an important signal," the Polish minister noted.
According to him, Rubio also assured that Ukraine, as a sovereign state, should have the right to develop its army and defense industry.
US demands regarding Crimea
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the US is considering recognizing Crimea as Russian in the context of a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. A few days later, Western media published information about a possible "peace plan" by Donald Trump, which includes recognizing Crimea as part of Russia, Ukraine's rejection of NATO, and other conditions.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, following media reports, categorically stated that Ukraine does not recognize its territories as part of Russia.
This week, on April 23, after a meeting of representatives of Ukraine, Europe, and the United States in London, where Secretary of State Marco Rubio was not present, Trump was outraged by Zelensky's position and stated that his words were making a peaceful settlement more difficult.
Zelensky also reported that London has developed new proposals for a peace agreement, taking into account Ukraine's position. They have already been submitted to Trump.
