Russia poses a threat to all European countries, says European Council President
19.03.2025The EU warns that Russia poses a threat to all European countries. This is a collective threat, regardless of how far an EU country is from Moscow. This was stated by the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, reports RBC-Ukraine with reference to The Guardian.

Antonio Costa
Costa made this statement in an interview with AFP on the eve of the EU leaders' summit, which will take place on March 20.
"Naturally, Russia's neighbors are most concerned about Russia - that goes without saying. But it is important that everyone is concerned, that everyone understands that this is a collective threat," said the President of the European Council.
Košta was also asked whether Europe should start restricting defense purchases by European companies. In response, he recalled the urgency of EU rearmament.
"It's a matter of time. We should buy the equipment we need now where it is available - in Europe, South Korea, Japan, the USA or Turkey," the head of the European Council said.
Koshta added that in the long term, not only procurement is important, but also production, and for this it is necessary to strengthen the industrial and technological base.
European rearmament plan
As a reminder, the European Commission presented the ReArm Europe rearmament plan worth 150 billion euros in March. EU leaders agreed to it at the summit on March 6.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen explained that the plan involves providing member states with fiscal space to invest in defense.
As Western media reports, France and Germany have clashed over the rearmament plan. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that other friendly countries should be involved in the project, but French President Emmanuel Macron is against it.
