Usmanov's USM holding has come under new British sanctions
13.04.2023Great Britain expanded sanctions against Russia because of its aggression against Ukraine. Among others, the USM holding of Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov was included in the restrictive list, he writes svoboda.org.

Commentaries on USM sanctions say that the holding belongs to Usmanov, who, according to London, benefits from or supports the Russian government. In addition, the company is engaged in strategic business for Russia in the extractive industry and digital technologies.
A native of Uzbekistan, Alisher Usmanov, has been under European sanctions since the spring of last year. The businessman is trying to challenge the decision in court. The Financial Times wrote that Tashkent had asked Usmanov to lift sanctions. The Uzbeks reported that the imposed sanctions against the businessman limited his ability to invest part of his fortune in the republic and engage in charity projects.
Among others, three children of the founder of AFK Sistema, Vladimir Evtushenkov, and the daughter of a businessman, member of the Federation Council, Suleyman Kerimov, came under British sanctions. Gulnara Kerimova, according to the British authorities, is acting on behalf of or on behalf of a person involved in the destabilization of Ukraine.
British restrictions also affected the wife of opposition Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk — Oksana Marchenko.
Earlier it became known that Canada has expanded the restrictions against Russia. 14 Russian citizens and 34 legal entities, including companies related to PMC "Wagner" and its founder Evgeny Prigozhin, were sanctioned.
