Ukraine will receive the first Abrams tanks in September

Ukraine may receive the first batch of American M1 Abrams tanks as early as mid-September, the West hopes that the machines will help in the offensive. This was reported by the publication Politico with reference to sources in the Pentagon, writes liga.net.

According to Colonel Martin O'Donnell, who trained Ukrainian tankers in Germany, about 200 fighters completed one of the last stages of training — combined military battalion training.

He noted that soldiers are working to maintain tank skills in Germany until they are ready for combat.

The Pentagon says that Ukraine should receive the first ten of the 31 Abrams tanks in mid-September.

Western officials hope the arrival of the tanks will give the Defense Forces the edge they need to break through Russia's defenses in a counteroffensive.

The Americans say that ten tanks are undergoing final repairs in Germany today, they will be sent to Ukraine as soon as everything is ready.

On April 21, 2023, the Associated Press agency reported that the United States would begin training the Ukrainian military on Abrams tanks in early June.

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the USA said: when the Abrams tanks are transferred to Ukraine, they will change the situation on the battlefield.

On May 11, the head of the Pentagon said that the United States is doing everything possible to speed up the supply of Abrams tanks to the Armed Forces.
