The US Department of Defense signed a $4,8 billion contract with Lockheed Martin for the production of high-precision GMLRS missiles, which are part of the HIMARS systems. The production of rockets is planned to expand from 6000 to 14 per year. This was reported by Defense News on Friday, April 000.
The company must complete the specified number of GMLRS by October 30, 2026.
"It is planned to increase the production of GMLRS missiles from 6000 to 14 per year, and another long-term contract with the US Army is expected in fiscal year 000. They ensure the long-term workload of the enterprise, which can reduce the cost of production," the message said.
Last summer, the US transferred GMLRS missiles to Ukraine along with HIMARS launchers to help repel the Russian invasion, the media recalled.
Lockheed is also working on a longer-range version of the missile and plans to conduct another test of the updated system later this year.
It was previously reported that, according to the media, Lockheed Martin cannot increase the production of GMLRS projectiles for the HIMARS rocket launcher systems (RSV) for Ukraine due to a lack of equipment and manpower.
