The German government has promised to allocate one million euros for green restoration projects in Ukraine. The new project was announced by the Minister of Economy and Climate Protection of Germany, Robert Habek, at a meeting with non-governmental organizations Greenpeace CEE, Ekodia, Ecoclub and BO "Energy Action for Ukraine Fund" in the renovated outpatient clinic in Gorentka of the Gostomel community.
It is noted that we are talking about the dispensary, which has become one of the examples of green restoration. Here, community organizations recently helped install a heat pump and a hybrid solar plant that help the building meet its energy needs more sustainably and with less damage to the environment.
The minister drew attention to the reasons that make this project amazing. First of all, it is the use of renewable energy. This is an example of what a green, carbon-free future could look like. Secondly, this project was not initiated by the government, but by public organizations and local authorities.
"As the Minister of Economy of Germany, I see my role in uniting partners. Of course, if we can give money, we will gladly give it, but the real strength of this project is the strength of civil society," said Robert Habek.
"The future of the Ukrainian energy industry and its security lies in decentralized generation based on renewable energy sources. We at Ecodia strive for this to be a priority in both national policy and international support for Ukraine. In particular, together with other NGOs, we sent a letter to the German government with a request to "green" our projects for Ukraine. I hope that the announced initiative will be another incentive for the Ukrainian authorities to include sustainable practices in the reconstruction plans," comments Kostyantyn Krynytskyi, head of the energy department of the NGO Ekodiya.
The outpatient clinic in Gorenka is not the only such example. Ecoclub, with the support of the Solar Energy Association of Ukraine, launched the Solar Aid For Ukraine project to provide critical infrastructure buildings with electricity from renewable sources. Thus, within its framework, a SES was installed at a hospital in Zvyagel in Zhytomyr Region, and funds are being collected for four more projects. And BO "Energy Action for Ukraine" Foundation is working on the "100 solar schools" and "50 solar hospitals" campaigns.
It was reported that German Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Economy Robert Habek arrived by train to Kyiv on an unannounced visit. The purpose of the visit is negotiations regarding the future restoration of Ukraine.
