Germany on Saturday, May 13, announced the provision of record military aid to Ukraine in the amount of 2,7 billion euros and promised to continue supporting Kyiv as long as necessary, writes Reuters.
According to a statement from the German Ministry of Defense, the package will include 30 Leopard 1 tanks, 15 Gepard anti-aircraft tanks, more than 200 reconnaissance drones and four Iris-T anti-aircraft systems.
“We all wish for a speedy end to this horrible and illegal war…. Unfortunately, this is not yet foreseen. Therefore, Germany will provide any assistance as needed," said German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
The head of the office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak thanked the partners. "Thank you to our allies. We are working," he wrote in Telegram.
Der Spiegel previously reported that this aid package to Ukraine from Germany would be the largest since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.
Zelensky can come to Germany
On May 14, Zelenskiy will be awarded the Charlemagne Prize in Aachen, Germany. The mass media also wrote about the possible visit of the President of Ukraine to Berlin.
Publications in the press about Zelensky's alleged visit to Germany caused indignation on the Ukrainian side. Information appeared in the media from anonymous interlocutors "close to the Ukrainian government" that due to the disclosure of data in Kyiv "they are so irritated" that the visit may be canceled.
Berlin police have launched an investigation into the suspected leak of sensitive security data. Ukraine's ambassador to Germany, Oleksiy Makeev, called the leak of confidential information about Zelenskyi's visit "very unfortunate."
