The German energy concern RWE has signed a contract for the annual supply of 2,25 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States, but deliveries may begin only in 2027, RWE Supply & Trading reported on Wednesday, December 28. The agreed volumes provide for the annual shipment to Germany of 30 LNG tankers or approximately 3 billion cubic meters of liquefied gas. The contract is designed for 15 years.

RWE's partner is the American company Sempra Infrastructure, which develops deposits and builds and operates LNG terminals on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico in the United States and the Pacific coast of Mexico. LNG supplies to Germany will be made from a new terminal in Port Arthur, Texas, which, according to plans, should be launched in 2027.

LNG cargoes can be delivered by RWE anywhere in the world, for example, to terminals in Germany. The head of RWE Supply & Trading, Andree Stracke, called the contract signed with the USA another important step towards the diversification of Germany's gas supply and the long-term strengthening of energy security in Europe.
