NATO has plans to build a repair and logistics center in Rzeszów, Poland, because of the city's strategic importance in Russia's war against Ukraine, writes Canada's The Globe and Mail. Earlier, the mayor of Rzeszów spoke about the "NATO base" in the city, he writes dw.com.

The North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) plans to build a repair and logistics center in the Polish city of Rzeszów (Ryaszew), located near the Ukrainian border. This was reported on Friday, July 28, by the Canadian publication The Globe and Mail with reference to sources among Canadian and Polish officials.

"We are going to create a repair center in partnership with the USA and Great Britain. A large Canadian presence there is not planned," said the Canadian government official, adding that the main function of the center will be the repair of Ukrainian tanks and other armored vehicles.

The center will be created in partnership with the USA and London

The NATO press service in Brussels responded to the publication's request that the Alliance "significantly strengthens deterrence and defense for all Alliance members, increases resistance to Russian coercion and supports partners in countering malicious interference and aggression."

In June, the mayor of Rzeszów Konrad Fiolek said in an interview with the Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza that NATO apparently intends to create a military base in the city. In particular, he expressed his belief that "American, British and Canadian troops will be permanently stationed here." "We are confident that this base will be here, although neither our government nor NATO has officially confirmed it yet," Fiolek said. If the information about the construction of the repair and logistics center is confirmed, it is possible that this is the "military base" that the mayor of the Polish city meant.

The publication reminds that with the beginning of the full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine, Rzeszów, due to its strategic location, became an important transport hub for the transfer of military aid to Ukraine. In addition, top politicians from all over the world travel to and from Ukraine through the city's airport.
