Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declined an invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin to participate in the celebrations on May 9 in Moscow.

According to him, Modi received an official invitation in early April, but "will not come." "India will be represented, but not at the highest level," Peskov added, without specifying the reasons for the Indian Prime Minister's refusal.

Earlier, the Russian state propaganda news agency TASS claimed that Modi might agree to come to Moscow and was even considering the possibility of Indian military personnel participating in the parade on Red Square.

Leaders of 20 countries will come to Moscow

At the same time, Peskov noted that Chinese leader Xi Jinping will be present at the parade, and that his visit to Moscow is "attached with great importance and is being prepared."

According to The Moscow Times, high-ranking representatives of 9 countries are expected in Moscow on May 20, including Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Venezuelan ruler Nicolas Maduro, and Cuban leader Miguel Diaz-Canel.

According to media reports, North Korean military personnel will also participate in the parade for the first time.
