On Tuesday, April 4, the Parliament of Lithuania adopted a decision to prohibit Russian citizens from buying real estate in the country, citing the risk of national security, Reuters reports.

At the same time, the ban, which will be in effect until 2024, will not apply to Russians who have been granted the right to reside in the country.

The parliament also stopped issuing new visas to citizens of Russia and Belarus. At the same time, citizens of these two countries who have other documents, such as previously issued visas, must undergo "individual extended checks" at the border to determine whether they pose a threat to national security.

"The vast majority of Russian citizens support their country's aggressive military actions and do not take measures to stop the aggression of their country's regime, so they share the responsibility," Deputy Foreign Minister Jurgita Nelyupsiene said during the presentation of the draft law in parliament.

Earlier, the leadership of Lithuania appealed to the parliament with a request to introduce a separate law on restrictions on obtaining visas for citizens of Russia and Belarus. These restrictions operate within the framework of the state of emergency and provide for stricter procedures for issuing all documents to Russians and Belarusians.
