The Latvian government is already preparing the second batch of drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), which were purchased as part of Ukraine's support, Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds said in an interview with ArmyInform.
"Latvia has already organized a batch of drones and they have already been sent. Now we are already collecting the second batch of drones, which should soon be sent to Ukraine," Andris Spruds noted.
According to him, Latvia, which together with Great Britain leads the "coalition of drones", announced a plan and commitment to contribute 20 million euros this year to the implementation of this initiative.
"At the same time, when we count those countries that have already made commitments, it is more than 500 million, more precisely, 549 million euros have already been promised by the member states, partners within the framework of the drone coalition. So, the next step is to use this funding effectively, and we're doing it on several levels," Spruds noted.
"Coalition of drones" for Ukraine
The "Drone Coalition" was officially launched on February 14 as part of the work of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine (known as the "Ramstein format"). Co-leaders of the coalition are Great Britain and Latvia. It was also joined by Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, announced earlier the launch of a joint Ukrainian-Latvian production of UAVs for the needs of the Defense Forces.
