17.01.2023Cyprus froze bank deposits of Russians worth 105 million euros. At the same time, Russian citizens placed 5,6 billion euros in Cypriot banks in 2022 alone. This was reported by Cyprus Finance Minister Konstantinos Petridis in an interview with the CBS channel, writes svoboda.org.

He also said that all Cypriot companies owned by Russian oligarchs, which have come under sanctions due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, are under "increased control." With regard to them, the withdrawal of the "golden passports" issued by Cyprus for multimillion-dollar investments in the country has been initiated. This is about ten people, Petridis clarified.
However, he did not mention a single name either on the air or at the request of CBS journalists. After a three-month correspondence, Petridis' office replied that according to European data protection rules, "a detailed list cannot be made public." At the same time, other EU countries published similar lists, CBS notes.
In April 2022, one of the main Cypriot newspapers, Phileleftheros, reported that the Cypriot authorities decided to cancel the "golden passports" of Russian businessmen Mikhail Gutseriev, Alexander Ponomarenko, Vadym Moshkovich and Alexei Kuzmychev (all of whom are under European sanctions), as well as their family members. A total of 21 people were included in this list.
By October 2022, 14,6 billion Russian oligarchs' funds were frozen in all EU countries, the European Commission reported at the time.
