The national debt of Russia exceeded the income of the federal budget

The state debt of the Russian Federation at the end of the first half of 2021 is 20,4 trillion rubles, which is 1,48 trillion more than the level at the beginning of the year, according to the operational report of the Accounting Chamber (CA), published on August 24 on the CA website. Domestic debt grew by 9,7% to 16,18 trillion rubles, its share is about 80%, the main part of the total is the state debt. Foreign state debt for the first half of the year grew by $1,83 billion to $58,54 billion (+3,2%).

We note that the planned revenues of the federal budget for 2021 are provided in the amount of 18,7 trillion rubles, which is less than the amount of the national debt. It is 17,7% of the projected level of GDP.

The Chamber of Accounts noted the high growth rates of the economy, explaining this by the low base of 2020. The report noted: "The record high growth in most of the main macroeconomic indicators is largely explained by the low base of the previous year."
