Free Fight Cup: "wall to wall"

The Ukrainian Free Fight Cup was held last weekend in Ternopil, a cool city that is turning into an informal capital of martial arts thanks to this sport in particular.

In the MMA section of the "Elite" division of the first round of the Championship of Ukraine and the "Amateur" division of the Cup of Ukraine - the most prestigious team award of the year - competitions were held in the Spartan "wall-on-wall" format on the sports mats of secondary school No. 3 of Ternopil.

"Sport is peace, sport is strength and mutual respect. Today, athletes from all regions of Ukraine - east, center, west, south - gathered on the Ternopil carpet. You are united by one goal - to win in a fair fight. And this is your contribution to the formation of a democratic, united Ukraine." the head of the Ternopil Regional Council, Vasyl Khominets, made a speech.

Viktor Matsykur, head of the Department of Family, Youth, Physical Culture and Sports, and Serhii Antropov, executive director of the All-Ukrainian Free Fight Federation, whose initiatives contributed to the spread of free fight in Ternopil, opened the competition together with Vasyl Khominets.

The head of the regional council also noted that the representatives of this courageous sport show an uncompromising struggle for the truth, for faith, for Ukraine not only on the carpet, but also in the ATO area.

Unfortunately, five athletes of the federation have already given their lives for the integrity and independence of our state. Among them are three people from Ternopil - Master of Sports of Ukraine, winner of the Free Fight Cup of Ukraine in 2014 Roman Ilyashenko, candidates for Master of Sports of Ukraine Orest Kvach and Andriy Yurkevich.

The participants of the competition honored the memory of their brothers with a moment of silence.

Two more Ternopil athletes continue to fight the enemy in Donbass - Valery Chobotar (head of the board of the regional free-fight center, honored coach of Ukraine) and Mykola Grynchuk (master of sports in free-fight (2013), winner of the Cup of Ukraine).

For the sake of sincerity, we should note that this year's Cup of Ukraine took place, despite the realities in the country, thanks to the efforts of Serhiy Antropov, Oleksandr Dolishnyi, Andrii Starovoit, Viktor Matsykur, Olena Pidhrushnia, Vadym Stetsenko, and many deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, who contributed as organizational , as well as financially for this non-commercial event.

National teams of 2015 regions of Ukraine took part in the competition for the 16 Cup. Sumy and Kharkiv Oblasts (Eastern Division), Kyiv, Vinnytsia, and Zhytomyr Oblasts (Central Division), Lviv Oblast (Western Division), as well as last year's finalists of the Cup of Ukraine, the national teams of Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk Oblasts, entered the final part.

The athletes were awarded by the founder and teacher of the free-fight school Andrii Starovoyt and the director of the department of family, youth, physical culture and sports Viktor Matsykur. The head of the regional council, Vasyl Khominets, awarded an athlete from the city of Kharkiv with a valuable gift (a watch) and a monetary reward for high sportsmanship.

5th place – national team of the Sumy region, coaches: I.A. Bondarenko, V.V. Gordienko;

6th place – Vinnytsia Oblast national team, coaches: Dyshlyvenko I.O., Kaminsky O.V,, Leibuk D.M.;
