The EU approved the tenth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation

The European Union approved new sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. This decision was announced an hour after the start of the war. The 10th sanctions package envisages a reduction in the export of industrial goods by 11 billion euros. It will be difficult for Russia to get parts for aircraft engines, antennas and other electronics from somewhere else. The TV channel "Euronews" quotes the words of the chairman of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, about the intention of Brussels to increase pressure on Moscow:

"Russia is retreating to an autarkic economy cut off from the world. Our sanctions sharply undermine its economic base, destroying any prospects for its modernization." According to the head of the European Commission, the pressure on Russia will continue. "We will pursue those who help Russia circumvent sanctions or replenish its military arsenal," warned Ursula von der Leyen.

The EU also approved sanctions against Iran. For the first time, the Corps of Guardians of the Islamic Revolution was punished for supplying Russia with kamikaze drones.

New sanctions against Russia will make it difficult for the EU to cooperate with a number of Russian banks. The personal "black list" of the EU has been expanded with the names of several Kremlin propagandists, representatives of political forces, military commanders and persons responsible for the forced and illegal deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia.

Coordination of sanctions between EU member states was not smooth. Hungary demanded that the names of several Russians be deleted from the draft sanctions document. Poland and Lithuania advocated a tougher position. Earlier it was reported that the EU countries refused to impose sanctions against the Russian nuclear and diamond industry. It was not possible to agree on the use of frozen Russian assets for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
