The Czech Republic has put an end to its dependence on Russian oil

The Czech Republic has become completely independent of Russian oil supplies for the first time in history. This was made possible thanks to the project to expand the western TAL pipeline. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fial, quoted by Ceske noviny.

According to Fial, for the first time in more than 60 years, the Czech Republic has become independent of the Druzhba oil pipeline.

"The first increased deliveries of non-Russian oil arrived from the Italian port of Trieste to the Central Oil Terminal in Nelagozevo on Wednesday. This afternoon, MERO CR will begin transporting crude oil to its owner, Orlen Unipetrol, at the refinery in Litvinov," said the director of MERO CR.

The Czech Republic will now be able to pump up to 8 million tons of crude oil per year from Western pipelines, enough to cover the consumption of the country's refineries.

"We have taken another step towards our energy independence," the prime minister said.

Refusal of Russian oil

After the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, the West began to gradually abandon energy supplies from the Russian Federation (RF). For example, the European Union (EU), the United States of America (USA), and a number of their partners reduced imports of oil, gas, and coal from the Russian Federation by introducing sanctions and restrictions.

According to media reports, the European Commission plans to announce a detailed strategy for phasing out imports of Russian oil and gas.

The head of the Belgian Ministry of Energy, Mathieu Biele, in turn, claimed that any talk that Western countries might return to energy ties with the terrorist country Russia is "illusory."
