It is reported that British defense company BAE Systems intends to build three new plants in the country to produce hexogen-based explosives. This substance is used in 155mm shells for British army guns and other types of weapons.

The production of its own ammunition is expanding amid the refusal of British and European defense companies to buy American equipment due to fears that President Trump has turned the United States into an unreliable partner.

Within two years, BAE Systems intends to increase production of NATO-standard 155-mm ammunition by 16 times. The company plans to use the world's first innovative technology, which is the biggest revolution in the production of explosives in the last 50 years, to establish production of its own explosives and sell this technology to other countries of the world. Previously, the manufacturer imported explosives based on hexogen from the USA and France.

BAE Systems is the largest defense contractor in Europe and hopes to achieve the production of ammunition without American components. This will allow the shells to be used without any restrictions from the United States.

The publication recalled that 155-mm shells are used by the British army in the Archer self-propelled howitzer and the AS-90 armored self-propelled artillery mount.

BAE Systems is the only manufacturer of this type of projectile in the UK. Most of this ammunition was transferred to Ukraine, making it in short supply within the country.

Weapons production in Europe

After the refusal of the administration of US President Donald Trump to actively confront Russia, European countries began to change their defense strategy approaches.

Thus, European countries plan to change their approach to providing assistance to Ukraine and finance weapons production instead of supplying ready-made weapons.

The United States has no plans to continue providing Ukraine with weapons, and the contracted supplies from the Joe Biden era are ending.

Meanwhile, Britain has successfully tested a weapon to destroy "flocks" of enemy drones.
