Great Britain has supplied Ukraine with a certain number of Storm Shadow cruise missiles. This allows the Armed Forces to strike Russian occupation forces at a distance of up to 250 kilometers, CNN reported, citing several high-ranking Western officials.

"This missile is really a game-changer in terms of range and gives Ukraine the capabilities it has been asking for since the beginning of the war," a senior US military official told CNN.

Another official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Great Britain had received assurances from the Ukrainian government that these missiles would be used only within the sovereign territory of Ukraine, and not for strikes against Russia. British officials often made public statements calling Crimea a sovereign territory of Ukraine, describing it as "illegally annexed."

The Storm Shadow is a long-range cruise missile jointly developed by the UK and France that is normally air-launched. It has a range of over 250 km, or 155 miles. This is slightly less than the 185-mile range capability of the US-made Army Tactical Surface-to-Surface Missile Systems (ATACMS), which Ukraine has long requested.

It is important that Storm Shadow has the range to deliver deep strikes on Russian-controlled territory in eastern Ukraine. At the same time, the current maximum range of weapons provided to the US in Ukraine is about 49 miles.
