Belgium, which currently presides on a rotating basis in the Council of the European Union, calls on the governments of the EU member states to think about starting the procedure of depriving Hungary of the right to vote. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Aja Lyabib on June 2 in an interview with Politico.

She advocated applying the no-confidence procedure to Hungary under Article 7 of the EU Treaty. "We have a Europe that is struggling to move forward and, unfortunately, some states, one in particular, are increasingly adopting a blocking and veto stance. I think we should have the courage to make a decision: to go to the end of Article 7, to activate Article 7 to the end — which involves ending the veto,” she said.

"This is the moment of truth. Or we will fulfill our responsibilities, which requires political courage and willpower. Or we implement mechanisms that do not work. And so we must choose. If we go all the way with this mechanism, it should work. If it doesn't work, we have to reform it. This is the future of the EU," the minister added.

In July, Hungary should take over the presidency of the EU Council by the end of the year. This will give it more authority to determine the agenda and priorities of the European Union. Accordingly, military aid to Ukraine, sanctions against Russia, and Ukraine's accession to the EU are under threat.

Hungary has not decided on participation in the "peace summit"

Meanwhile, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijártó, gave an interview to the Belarusian ONT channel on June 2, in which he stated that his country has not yet decided on participation in the global "peace summit" scheduled for June 15-16.

"The question is whether a peace conference makes sense if there are no warring parties. If both sides are not represented, I think it's a legitimate question whether the whole conference makes sense in terms of the ultimate goal, which is the pursuit of peace," he said.
