Austria found an alternative to Russian gas
12.01.2023The Austrian authorities intend to replace gas supplies from Russia with biogas of their own production, and they also plan to accelerate the commissioning of power plants operating on renewable energy sources, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers said in a statement following the results of the first meeting of the Austrian government in 2023. gasandmoney.ru.

Head of Gazprom, Alexey Miller
"Challenges of internal and external security were at the center of the political work of all EU member states, as well as supply security issues. Suddenly, the biggest concern was whether we would be able to provide our country with enough energy. The inflation rate, expressed in a two-digit number, has increased the cost of living for people, as well as the rise in energy prices," the message says.
During the government meeting, a decision was made to "reduce dependence on Russian gas" this year. In order to realize this goal as soon as possible in Austria, it is planned to adopt a number of laws that will accelerate the energy transition to renewable energy. We are talking about speeding up procedures for commissioning power plants, increasing financing of photovoltaic systems and expanding biogas production.
"Production of ecologically clean "green gas" in Austria should be increased to 10,5 terawatt-hours annually by 2030. To do this, gas suppliers must use an annually increasing share of "green gas," the message says.
According to the government's plans, by 2030 the volume of biogas produced by the company on the basis of biomethane should make up 11% of the total volume of gas. It is clarified that biogas is a "limited resource" and can only partially replace natural gas, "for example, at high-temperature applications in industry."
Also, at the government meeting, issues of strengthening the economy and the labor market, as well as anti-corruption work, were discussed.
