She noted that the restrictions were introduced in coordination with international partners in order to maximally affect those individuals and organizations that directly or indirectly support Russia's illegal and immoral invasion of Ukraine.
Sanctions are directed against legal entities and individuals of economic and strategic importance to Russia, in particular:
- Russian companies supplying advanced technology, electronics and equipment for the Russian Armed Forces
- Russian entities engaged in nuclear energy and the extraction of Arctic resources
- First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Andriy Belousov and Deputy Prime Minister Dmytro Chernyshenko
- Major Russian defense companies, including Russia's largest military helicopter manufacturer and its CEO
- High-ranking Belarusian officials who threatened the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine
It is noted that Australia has already taken measures to recover damages from Russia and imposed sanctions on more than 1100 individuals and organizations that support the invasion of Ukraine.
Wong once again called on Russia to immediately withdraw from Ukraine, and on Belarus to stop supporting the war of the aggressor country.
The minister added that the Australian government steadfastly supports Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The country stands with the people of Ukraine, who continue to show extraordinary courage in the face of Russia's brutal invasion and relentless attacks on civilian infrastructure.
Aid to Ukraine from Australia
Australia is one of the largest non-NATO countries providing aid, ammunition and defense equipment to Ukraine.
In particular, Australia will transfer 30 more Bushmaster APCs to Ukraine.
It should be noted that the Australian defense company Electro Optic Systems signed a contract with the Ukrainian state foreign trade enterprise "SpetsTechnoExport" for the supply of up to one hundred of its remote weapon systems (RWS) to Ukraine.
